Life beyond the classroom.

At Oundle, what happens outside lessons is every bit as formative as what happens within them. Pupils are encouraged to say yes – to try, to lead, to create, to support – not to fill time but to shape who they are and who they become. They learn to manage themselves, to balance commitments, to stay curious and open minded and to take pride in doing things well.

Here, academic ambition and co-curricular life are not in competition. They strengthen each other. The same habits that lead to excellent results – focus, organisation and resilience when things don’t quite go your way – are refined through music, drama, sport, leadership and service.

Breadth and balance.

Oundle is large enough to offer remarkable breadth of opportunity yet personal enough that every pupil is known.

What truly defines this breadth is the culture: pupils are trusted to take part fully, to lead, to support others and to bring their whole selves. It is common here to meet a first-class musician who also rows, an engineer who acts or a linguist who plays county hockey. No one is confined to a single path.

Our full boarding rhythm gives pupils time to live fully. Evenings and weekends are used for rehearsals, projects and matches, for quiet practice and shared endeavour as well as time with friends. In this rhythm they learn balance – how to work hard, rest well and make time for what matters.

Houses give structure and belonging, providing the steady base from which pupils can stretch themselves. They live alongside friends who share their enthusiasm and staff who know them well enough to nudge, guide and encourage, and to recognise when it is time for a break.

Space and Rhythm.

"Oundle’s scale gives opportunity but its culture gives meaning. Pupils don’t just take part – they belong."

Dominic Oliver, Head of Oundle School
